Families still prepared to holiday in school term time
A survey by moneysupermarket has found that 31% of parents would take their children on holiday during school term time. It was back in 2004 when the Government introduced fines to try and discourage parents from taking their children on holiday during the school term with penalites starting from £50 and rising to £100.
While the threat of fines had an impact when initally launched these survey results have shown a big jump in parents prepared to take the risk compared to previous years. With holiday prices being much higher during the school holidays – a recent Daily Telegraph analysis showing a half term holiday premium of 69% – and the increased pressure on family budgets during the economic difficulties, this is not a great surprise.
Interestingly the survey also found that a third of parents considered travel to be an important part of their children’s education – or was this a case of decision justification – while only 21 per cent of parents believed that a holiday during the school term could not be justified under any circumstances.
So what would you do? Does missing the odd day at the endof term really make a difference? Should the fines be stronger?

Where’s ‘Hot’ in France?
With warmer weather coming and thousands of people opting for holidays in France to forget the doom and gloom of a heightening recession, here is a breakdown of some of the most visited tourist sites in the country.
- Palace of Fontainebleau – The Palace of Fontainebleau, sometimes known as Fontainebleau Castle, is located 35 miles from Paris and was built in its current form in the 16th century. The area is a popular getaway for Parisians and is fast gaining a popular reputation amongst other visitors.
- Disneyland Resort Paris – Probably one of the most famous destinations on this list, Disneyland Paris is around 20 miles from Paris, and has been operating since 1992 as the European answer to the original Disneyland resort in the USA. The resort attracts around 10 million visitors a year from all over Europe.
- Notre Dame de Paris – Notre Dame de Paris is a gothic cathedral located in east Paris. The building of the cathedral took 185 years to be completed, and was finally finished in 1345. The novel The Hunchback of Notre Dame was inspired by the church, and was partly written to raise awareness of the disrepair of the cathedral in the 19th century.
- Eiffel Tower – No mention of French Tourist hotspots would be complete without a mention of the Eiffel Tower, which has become a global icon of France and is one of the most famous man-made structures in the world. The tower was built between 1887 and 1889 for the World’s Fair that was due to be held in Paris, after authority figures in Barcelona rejected its construction there. Ironically, after its completion many of the French public hated the structure, with many labeling it an eyesore.
- Centre Georges Pompidou – The Centre Georges Pompidou is a vast public library and modern art museum located in the centre of Paris, and was built in 1977. The Centre is named after French president Georges Pompidou, and has had over 150 million visitors since 1977. Construction of the building cost around 950 million francs, and renovation work that finished in 2000 cost around half that.

When will you book your 2011 holiday?
As the summer holidays draw to a close our thoughts here at Find Family Holidays turn instantly to where will we go next year. Should we go to the same place or strike out for somewhere new, should we book in advance or wait for last minute bargains… if we wait, will we miss out on the places we really want to go! And, the big one… will we do the research and book or will we do the research and then do nothing until next year.
So are we just family holiday mad or do you go through these dilemmas? Check out our poll on the right and tell us when you intend to book your next summer holidays.

Family fun Harness and Aqua Sphereing – special offer
It’s the last days of the summer holidays and you are probably running out of things to keep the kids entertained, so how about Harness and Acqua Sphereing! And, with this Special Offer, Weekday Sphereing for Two that USUALLY costs £65 is just £49.00. Find out more about this offer>
It’s guaranteed to be a dizzying experience this Sphereing malarky! If you choose ‘traditional’ sphereing you and your chosen sphereing partner are strapped inside the big plastic ball with a harness. You both then get rolled down a purpose-built course – don’t be surprised if you reach speeds of up to 30mph!
There’s no need to choose the venue you would like to buy (and we have venues throughout the UK), but you do need to decide on the activity. Harness sphereing is available for two people inside the same sphere for one roll.
Experience summary: Each roll lasts around 30 seconds and takes place on a specially tracked out sphereing course. Remember you must have two people for harness sphereing. More zany Zorbing experiences are available.
